About the Project
This project is a 34,000 square foot San Francisco workplace for a global financial technology platform, designed to support more than 200 employees while inspiring connection and celebrating local creativity. The client’s objective was to create a post-pandemic office that would reengage employees, foster belonging, and reflect the brand’s deep ties to small businesses and entrepreneurs. The space needed to serve both daily staff and visiting teams, while offering a strong sense of place rooted in the Bay Area.
The design program is organized around team neighborhoods supported by a variety of work settings. These include shared team tables, assigned and open-address workstations, and a wide range of Alternative Work Points that support focus, collaboration, and quiet retreat. Hospitality-influenced lounge areas and biophilic elements introduce warmth and comfort while encouraging movement and informal interaction throughout the floor.
Client Statement
“Our main goal was to create a space that fosters connection and belonging. It was a magic moment to watch this design team take these aspirations, alongside complex corporate and pragmatic requirements, and distill them into a meaningful, cohesive human experience.”
Art and storytelling are central to the project and serve as the primary vehicle for brand expression. A curated collection of more than 38 artworks by Bay Area artists fills the space, including murals, digital installations, integrated graphics, and sculptural pieces. All featured artists are also customers of the company, reinforcing the client’s customer-centered mission. A feature art wall in the main conference room incorporates original artifacts from 20 local small businesses tied to San Francisco’s music culture, transforming the room into a cultural archive that connects business, creativity, and community.
Sustainability was a key driver. Eighty percent of the existing built environment was retained, and much of the furniture was reused or refurbished to support circular design goals. The result is a layered, expressive workplace that redefines the modern office as a place of culture, connection, and purpose.
