The IIDA Northern California Leaders Breakfast
It is our great pleasure to announce Heather McGhee as our featured speaker at the Northern California Chapter’s 2019 IIDA Leaders Breakfast.
What does it mean to be an American today, and what are we to one another?
Heather McGhee is an expert in economic and social policy, racial healing, and transformative organizational change. As the former president of the inequality-focused think tank Demos, she drafted legislation, testified before Congress, and became a regular contributor on shows like Meet the Press and Real Time with Bill Maher. She also led Demos’ own racial equity organizational transformation, resulting in a doubling of the organization’s racial diversity and growth across all measures of organizational impact.
McGhee is a Distinguished Senior Fellow at Demos, a member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council on Civic Participation, and serves on multiple boards of trustees. Her role as a national thought-leader on addressing racism led to Starbucks founder Howard Schultz asking for her guidance as the company developed an employee training curriculum in countering racial bias.
In addition to this inspiring speaker, our Chapter will bestow the annual Leadership Award of Excellence this year to Collin Burry.
Collin Burry is an IIDA Fellow, a 2013 inductee into Interior Design magazine’s Hall of Fame, and has been recognized by San Francisco magazine as one of the top 100 most influential LGBTQ leaders in the Bay Area. He’s a past president of IIDA Northern California and recently completed six years representing IIDA on the CIDA Board of Directors. Burry currently sits on the A+D Accessions Committee at SFMOMA and is committed to eradicating HIV and homelessness, sitting on the campaign committee for PRC, a local not-for-profit committed to these causes.
As a design principal at Gensler, Burry has designed for many of the world’s most iconic brands, such as Netflix, Apple, Pixar, EA, Nike, Samsung, Symantec, and Nokia. His creative and contemporary approach has earned him over 90 design awards and frequent coverage in international design and business media.
Please join us in celebrating our design leaders of today and IIDA’s commitment to the future of design at this informative and inspiring event!
