IIDA Silicon Valley City Center Student Affairs hosted the Student Firm Tours event on September 21, 2018 at three local design firms in the Silicon Valley. AP+I Design, Hawley Peterson Snyder and Interior Architects graciously hosted the students to give a tour of their office spaces. Students from San Jose State University, West Valley College and Canada College schools were in attendance during this informative and exciting event.
The 3-hour tour began at AP+I in Mountain View where the students toured their new net-zero office space and learned about the building construction and elements that contributed towards their zero-energy building. The tour then continued to Hawley Peterson Snyder, where the students were greeted with refreshments and snacks. HPS presented their body of work and talked about the different stages of a project, from programming to design, and about the design tools they use to present their projects. The students walked out of HPS with a popsicle and a favor at the end, which was a nice touch. Finally, the group headed to their last stop at Interior Architects in Santa Clara. The group received a warm welcome with refreshments from the team and learned about one of their ongoing projects and the technology they use.
We would like to give a very special thank you Anyssa Bini at AP+I, David Regester, John Spotorno ,Karen Glaser, Gary Crosman, Vachik Zirakian, Kim Pham at HPS, and Gita Singh and Rebecca Van Lue at IA for their hospitality and sharing their knowledge with the students.
