As the year comes to close we’d like to take a moment to thank everyone who helped make Scene Local 2018 such a huge success!

This year our design teams explored variations of the design concept “San Francisco 2050″ with each design team vignette interpreting the theme in their own unique and creative way. The variety and execution from each of the teams was extremely impressive. Everything from interactive technology, live plant walls, transportation hubs, to how we design for rising sea levels could be seen, touched, and explored.

Each year the participating firms create more immersive and spectacular scenes for us to experience and 2018 was no exception. Design Teams were lead by HKS, Gensler, HOK, Huntsman, and VDTA (Valerio Dewalt Train). Each team was paired with a variety of manufacturers, furniture dealers, contractors, and local makers. Each team was tasked with selecting product, furniture, lighting, and finishes that emphasized the San Francisco 2050 theme and worked closely together to design and build this year’s scenes.  Be sure to check out a recap of everything that was showcased at their vignettes by clicking here to view the 2018 Scene Local Look Book.

For the first time ever, we were able to make Scene Local a two night event! During these two nights more than six hundred visitors stopped by to see this year’s event. A big thank you to our event venue, The Pearl, for hosting us for a second year in a row, the large open multi floor layout made it a perfect location for showcasing the scenes and the rooftop deck served as the perfect backdrop for a night of networking and great design. Thanks to everyone’s financial support the IIDA San Francisco City Center was able to raise $15,000 for our 2018 philanthropic partner, Food Runners. With that money they can continue to deliver over fifteen tons of food per week to the homeless that might otherwise be thrown away. The IIDA SFCC is proud to support such a valiant effort and is thankful for the opportunity to give back to the community.

Keep watch for upcoming details on Scene Local 2019 — there will be a new theme and a new set of design teams ready to assemble another series of inspirational scenes! See you there!
