project BUILD: A collaborative, community design & build project by the IIDA NC: Silicon Valley City Center

Posted on: September 14, 2012

With the belief that design can act as an agent of change, the philanthropy section of IIDA-Northern California, Silicon Valley City Center, seeks to provide professional services to communities in need. This Summer 2012, we reached out to InnVision Shelter Networks, a non-profit organization providing homes and services to homeless families and individuals in the Silicon Valley, to help update a single-family home in San Jose, California.

The scope of this project included upgrades and a refresh of the Alexander House, a home managed by InnVision Shelter Networks that helps transition women with mental illnesses into a more independent lifestyle. The refresh will include new flooring, paint, and furniture in the living room, family room, dining room, as well as, a new toilet, paint, and tiles in two restrooms. Understanding the strength of collaboration, our organization was able to CONNECT our community of designers, architects, product manufacturers, furniture dealers, and contractors to TRANSFORM a single spae into a better home for these women that will be INSPIRED to make progress in their lives.
