IIDA Silicon Valley City Center Student Affairs hosted the 4th annual “Race to Design” event on September 15, 2017. This is a design “scavenger hunt” inspired by the TV show “The Amazing Race” and our 14 contestants from South Bay design schools solved clues that took them to local design firms where they worked on selecting finishes and developing design for an office relaxation/yoga room.

HGA, Habitec and RMW graciously volunteered space and materials as well as time reviewing the task completion at each location.  The competition was concluded by critique at KBM-Hogue where all the entries completed within allowed time were judged based on the overall design of the project.  Students presented their final designs in front of a judging panel consisting of Matt Denning (KBM-Hogue), Corinda Wong (Gensler) and Anna Harrison (Aedis Architects).

Winning team featuring Enrico Caminiti (SJSU), Noor AlHelew (SJSU) and Noura Tawfik (West Valley CC) received free student memberships, and all students received favors by J+J Carpet and Designtex. A very special thank you to KBM-Hogue who provided refreshments for exhausted students at the end of the race.  We are looking forward to the 5th annual Race to Design in September of 2018.
