The San Francisco City Center continued their summer tour series on August 3rd with a tour of ThoughtWorks by FENNIE + MEHL Architects, winner of the 2016 People’s Choice Award and Give Award. The tour was led by Jenna Ruth and Ned Fennie from FENNIE + MEHL, along with David Rice from ThoughtWorks.
ThoughtWorks is a global software development company with a unique mission to revolutionize software design, creation and delivery in a sustainable way while advocating for social and economic justice. They strictly evaluate each potential business project for its’ ability to positively affect social or economic change, and they reinvest a portion of their profit and overhead toward efforts that better humanity.
David, Jenna and Ned described the extensive search they went through together to seek out a property in a neighborhood where ThoughtWorks could make a difference. The design of their office is unpretentious, transparent and receptive. It is laid out around a flexible communal space that is open to other social justice organizations for gatherings that bring the tech and local community together. The space also features a rotating gallery of artwork by local artists. It was truly inspiring to see a company striving to make a positive impact.
We would like to thank everyone who was able to join us, with a special thank you to FENNIE + MEHL for helping us organize the event, to ThoughtWorks for hosting us, and to our sponsor for the delicious British treats, courtesy of naughtone!
