Fall has officially arrived when the Leader’s Breakfast invitations go out. It’s an event that everyone in the design community looks forward to- with great anticipation.
For several years now, it’s been held at the Four Seasons and there’s something delightfully anticipatory about getting off the elevator upstairs where the ball rooms are, and seeing all of your design industry friends dressed in their morning finest, drinking coffee and catching up. It is in these moments that I know and deeply understand what our community FEELS like. It’s warm and supportive and affectionate – and reminds me every year of how fortunate I am to work with such a fine group of peers.
I’ve been lucky to serve on the IIDA Leader’s Breakfast committee in the past, so I know that when they begin the process to find the key note speaker (and interestingly- this starts at the lunch that committee members are invited to, right after each year’s event), they look for someone who can broaden our horizons through something they’ve accomplished or are doing or else, spark our creativity in new and positive ways. We can be a tough audience, so entertainment is valued, but never at the expense of inspiration.
This year, we’ll get to listen in awe to Mick Ebeling of Not Impossible Labs. Mick was motivated to start this organization, which helps the world’s most needy, by pairing them with creative solutions to improve and empower them.
David Mourning (FIIDA AIA, President, CEO AND Founder of IA Interior Architects (IA) will be receiving this year’s Annual Leadership Award of Excellence for his work and leadership.
The 2016 Distinguished Achievement Award will be going to Nanci Scoular (Industry IIDA) out of appreciation for her service to our community.
As I said before, we are lucky to be part of a great community! See you all in September!
