The design for the 50,900 square foot Malwarebytes Headquarters centers on the key objectives to provide a hospitality-focused experience for the Malwarebytes team and visitors, and to establish a dynamic and layered series of workplace typologies that encourage high levels of interaction between staff.
The new office space, situated on two floors in a multi-floor, multi-tenant building in Santa Clara, provides expansive 360 degree views of Silicon Valley and overlooks the new Levi’s Stadium, home of
the 49ers football team. Vertical integration of various teams over the two floors was critical to the success of the design. A large interconnecting stair provides the focal point of the office and the epicenter of the organization. It also serves as the all-hands presentation area and is adjacent to the board room, large work-cafe, and pinball machine corner, creating a cultural hub with everyone meeting in the middle of the physical space . A featured moss wall provides the primary focal point that also serves as a background for drop down presentation screens.
Tucked underneath the main stair is a “secret” bar that is a moment of delight and surprise within the project. The bar is a dark and moody speakeasy-inspired space. Entering through a blind door, luxurious black chevron marble tiles line the walls and draw the eye toward the amazing views of the Levi’s Stadium and the mountains beyond. Custom dark green leather tufted chairs paired with the classic marble tables are parked to provide an intimate setting.
To support and encourage a culturally open and fluid work space and culture, the design team organized in workstations into “neighborhoods” that flow outward from the main entrance. Each neighborhood has team-specific amenities (such as touchdown spaces, task-specific storage, and three gaming rooms) to support their function and establish a dynamic and layered layout across the large floor plates of the building. Workstations are located around the perimeter with conference and meeting areas located in the inner core to increase access to natural daylight for staff.
The textured carpet, wall coverings, and custom colored light fixtures throughout the office create a layered sophistication with every surface thoughtfully considered. The design team inserted high-end residential and retail finishes within key spaces such as the main kitchen, secret bar, and central open collaboration spaces. Bright, bold blue and yellow accents are juxtaposed against a neutral black background. Organic wood elements stand in contrast to natural light coming in from the large windows around the entire building perimeter with incredible views throughout. The steel, copper, stone, marble and ceramics in the main cafe and all-hands area add various textures and layers creating a sophisticated and grown-up ambiance.
The darker hues and materiality were playfully inspired by the staff’s keen interest and devotion to the Star Wars universe. The design team worked with the Malwarebytes team to select wall graphics, throw pillows, art pieces, and additional decor elements to create a highly curated space.VOTE HERE
